Last Saturday we stayed at a cottage right on Lake Michigan, between Whitehall and Muskegon. It’s part-owned by Jill’s cousin Sherry, and until this weekend, it was almost 20 years since they’d last met up. We had a great time visiting with her and her family.
Up and down the lakeshore at the end of the 19th, start of the 20th, century, there were lots of associations, communities, that built collections of cottages. Some of them sprung from a religious group, like our friends’ up near Frankfort that we have stayed in before. Some of the cottages built were quite rustic, and some of them have stayed that way. None seem to be winterized. This group was obviously originally one of the grander communities. Off the kitchen is this extra guest bedroom, which would originally have been for the cook.
