Last September I attended a workshop on Whidbey Island in Washington State led by Charlie Waite and Keron Psillas thanks to the Pacific Northwest Art School. I had long known of Charlie and even had a few books by him, so I jumped at the chance to attend a workshop with him in the USA. Workshops mean a lot of getting out early in the morning (not my normal style) as well as staying out late. Much of our efforts focused either on the historic Wharf or the even more historic Ebey’s Landing. Classroom sessions at Camp Casey took up much of each day.
I was very fortunate to find accommodation with Sarah who not only lived in Coupeville but had also attended photography workshops in the past with both Charlie and Keron. After the workshop, I had been hoping to travel up to Bellingham for a few days before flying home, but the lack of public transport on a Sunday meant I did not, and instead Sarah was happy for me to stay and continue exploring the island as well as taking the ferry to Port Townsend.
All in all, a great 10 days.
Update May 2024: I now have a gallery of 16 of the photographs I made there, as well as a ‘zine with 36 photographs and some of the stories behind (which is available as a download if you subscribe for new sketches).
