After being really cold (high 25F) all weekend, last night it first snowed heavily (5 inches?), and then warmed up enough to rain for a while. When we were getting ready to leave, everything was covered in ice. One of the cats tried to have a run outside, and was amazed to find his legs heading in all directions at once. On the train, once we were out in the countryside, it was like when the first snow of winter arrived, only more so; the graphic nature of the bare trees was emphasized, and now any sort of distracting background was eliminated. It was no longer raining, but there was still a mass of moisture suspended in the air, and sometimes there was even mist rising from the ground. Wow, so many photographs flashing by. But the seating arrangements, and the secure baggage, meant I never captured any! But I know where to look for them in the future.
